Position OverviewAs a Mechanical Engineer at BWXT, you will plan, organize, and conduct technical projects to support manufacturing operations. You will apply engineering procedures and analysis to evaluate and solve technical problems while providing advisory support in the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of manufacturing operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to create and improve processes, shaping the future of engineering in a critical and dynamic industry.LocationOn-site in Jonesborough, TennesseeYour Day to Day as a Mechanical EngineerProvide advisory support in the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of manufacturing operationsConceive and plan projects involving major production activities, exploration of product and/or process problems, and definition and selection of new concepts and approaches in mechanical operationsConduct technical investigations involving the application of technical principlesEvaluate test and production data, prepare technical analysis, and recommend mechanical methods and processes required to meet design objectives on new or improved products and/or processesCoordinate technical matters relating to assembly drawing interpretation, rework, manufacturing difficulties, and specificationsParticipate in design reviews to determine producibility and may recommend changes in design to facilitate cost‑effective fabricationAssist in the preparation of detailed processing plans and fabrication instructionsAssist with performance of problem, failure, and incident investigationEvaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, making product adaptations and modifications using experience and judgmentRequired QualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related disciplineTwo (2) years of relevant experienceStrong data and process interpretation and evaluation skillsClear and concise communication, both orally and in writingAbility to read, interpret, and evaluate analytical and experimental data, blueprints, and technical dataTechnological proficiency to use various computer systems to produce reports and spreadsheetsTimely completion of multiple tasks and deadlines set by management in a team environmentMust be a U.S. citizenMust be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearancePreferred QualificationsFamiliarity with pertinent mechanical engineering codes, rules, and regulationsExperience with CAD and/or CAM methods and techniquesBackground in quality control processes and regulatory requirementsProficiency with computer systems and software used to create reports and spreadsheetsStrong grasp of numerical and mechanical practices and processesWorking knowledge of statistical methodsExposure to Lean and Six Sigma manufacturing conceptsAbility to apply Lean manufacturing principles to production and design processesExperience with engineering theory related to production lines and system/device design or evaluationAwareness of workplace safety regulations and safe‑work practicesUnderstanding of engineering economics and budget planningFamiliarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)What We OfferCompetitive salary and benefits package, including health, dental, and retirement plansFlexible work schedules and paid time off to promote a healthy work‑life balanceProfessional development opportunities, including mentorship programs and sponsorship for continuing educationAn inclusive atmosphere that celebrates new perspectives and supports collaboration between different generationsThe chance to be part of a mission‑driven organization making a positive impact on the future of energyOpportunities for continuous learning and training to grow throughout your careerSalaryPay: $76,000 – $119,000 per year (subject to local market factors and candidate experience and qualifications).Equal Employment OpportunityBWXT is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
