Controls Engineer – Direct Hire | Near Kingsport, TN

A highly reputable East Tennessee manufacturing company is seeking a Controls Engineer to support and improve automated production systems. This is a direct hire opportunity with strong long-term growth potential in a stable, team-oriented environment. Salary will be based on experience, education, and technical background.

This role partners closely with manufacturing to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and efficiency. You'll work hands-on with PLCs, controls systems, and automation while driving continuous improvement initiatives across the plant.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic control systems

• Program, modify, and maintain PLC systems across automated and semi-automated equipment

• Lead and document PLC preventative maintenance programs

• Assist with design and development of electrical schematics in compliance with NEC and applicable codes

• Perform root cause analysis on equipment downtime and implement corrective actions

• Develop standardized work processes and improve equipment reliability

• Provide technical support to manufacturing and engineering teams

• Lead and support continuous improvement and Kaizen initiatives

• Partner with operations to improve plant performance, efficiency, and profitability

• Ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 standards

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or related field preferred)

• 3–5 years of experience in controls/automation within a manufacturing environment

• Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)

• Experience with automated manufacturing xywuqvp equipment and controls systems

• Knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 14001 standards is a plus

• Familiarity with NEC electrical codes and industrial standards

• Proven ability to troubleshoot, train, and support PLC-driven systems
