Position Summary: The Food Preparation Specialist plays a vital role in our kitchen by assisting the Chef/Manager with essential food preparation tasks. This includes preparing ingredients for different kitchen stations, maintaining a clean work area, and ensuring that the kitchen is stocked and ready for service. The specialist must adhere to provided recipes to maintain the quality and consistency of all dishes served.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prepare and cook foods that require longer preparation times.
  • Complete daily prep tasks before service begins.
  • Follow recipes and product directions to prepare, season, cook, taste, carve, and serve a variety of dishes including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts.
  • Organize preparation items according to the requirements of the prep sheet.
  • Operate kitchen equipment to measure and mix ingredients, wash, peel, cut, and shred fruits and vegetables, and prepare meats.
  • Taste products, monitor production, and maintain accurate records to plan and requisition supplies and equipment effectively.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment, adhering to all company and regulatory health standards.
  • Utilize proper measurements as outlined in recipes when preparing food.
  • Gather all necessary items for prep from storage areas to set up an efficient workstation.
  • Follow food safety guidelines for cooling prepped items.
  • Implement protocols to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Maintain a tidy workspace using a “clean as you go” approach.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as cut gloves to ensure safety.
  • Assist in washing dishes, utensils, and food containers in the dish area as required.

Sensory Requirements:

  • Vision: Ability to see objects clearly at a distance (20 feet or more) and at close range (12 inches or less); corrective lenses are permissible.
  • Hearing: Ability to hear effectively for communication in person or via telecommunications.
  • Speaking: Ability to articulate thoughts clearly in person or over the phone.
  • Touch: Ability to assess texture and temperature through touch.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; a two-year associate degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of cooking experience.

  • Must complete all training requirements, including safety, systems, and menu related sessions.
  • Adhere to company appearance standards.

Physical Demands:

  • Engage in physical activities that involve extensive use of arms, legs, and overall body movement, including lifting, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Exhibit reasonable mobility and awareness of environmental conditions while walking.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and reach to manipulate items in the kitchen.
  • Lift and carry items as needed, utilizing proper techniques.
  • Climb as necessary to reach storage areas or equipment.
  • Maintain trunk strength for repetitive tasks without fatigue.
