Material Handler - Shipping

The Material Handler will be responsible for performing all material handling functions associated with stocking, pulling, and loading products. This position will also be required to operate a lift truck in order to move stock to and from warehouse areas as well as load trucks for shipment.

Duties And Responsibilities

Pick up and move molded from pack lines.

Pick up and place molding into staging areas or stock areas.

Pick up and move molded from staging areas or stock areas and load onto trucks for shipment.

Put molding into units and band for shipment.

Read 'pick sheet' and select cartons of molding and move to staging area or onto a truck for shipment.

Use 'loading sheet' to select and load cartons on a non-motorized cart to a total line.

Perform daily maintenance checklist on lift truck.

Unload and place into inventory all employee carton stock.

Count cartons and verify amounts.

Maintain level of quality consistent with established standards.

Comply with established safety rules and use required safety equipment.

Maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, leads, supervisors, and managers.

Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.

Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor and/or lead and/or manager.

  • Lead the implementation and execution of the HSE program.
  • Demonstrate personal commitment to HSE compliance by leading by example, being knowledgeable about safety policies/procedures, and understanding environmental permits and policies.
  • Share personal safety stories and lead shift safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Foster an environment of openness, trust, and mutual respect to enhance HSE performance.
  • Regularly communicate HSE policies and expectations, holding direct reports accountable.
  • Conduct frequent safety observations, identify and correct workplace hazards, and coach employees.
  • Ensure that working safely is a condition of employment.
  • Support and adhere to Westlake HSE initiatives such as Life Critical Rules, Safe Start, and the STAR program.
  • Facilitate safety training for employees.
  • Provide injury response and case management, and lead or participate in accident investigations.
  • Use formal corrective action and recognition to encourage desired behaviors.
  • Achieve site metrics by completing assigned HSE tasks and ensuring direct reports do the same.
Education, Experience, And Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) desired.

Experience: Six (6) to twelve (12) months of related experience in a shipping environment. Previous experience operating a lift truck/forklift desired.

Skills: Demonstrated computer aptitude, ability to perform basic math functions utilizing all units of measure (whole numbers, fractions, decimals, etc.)

Communication: Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbal information.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
