Electrical Protection and Control Technician I & II

Description:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, and collect data on electrical systems across low, medium, and high voltage.
  • Collaborate with project leads for functional testing of substation control circuits, including relay panels,transformers, and circuit breaker controls. Participate in isolation, setpoint testing, advanced logic testing, and scheme testing such as reclosing and breaker failure.
  • Engage in end-to-end relay testing utilizing Doble Protection Suite, RTS, or Test Universe software to validate communication-assisted protection schemes.
  • Support project leads in the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment, including DFR equipment, SCADA systems, and distribution automation systems.
  • Assist in creating standardized procedures for commissioning, testing, and maintaining protective relaying equipment, RTUs, IEDs, and related communication systems.
  • Generate detailed customer reports outlining identified issues and proposed corrective actions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with customers, vendors, and service providers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred qualifications include an associate's degree in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC) from an accredited institution or a degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, relevant military training, or Journeyman level Electrician experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
  • Must be capable of distinguishing color coding on wires, fiber optics, and other necessary materials.
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to electrical safety protocols is crucial.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.

  • Physical capability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift objects up to 75 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record is mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel domestically overnight on a regular basis.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including the possibility of overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights.
