Job Summary

To ensure that school facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition to provide students and staff with an environment conducive to learning.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

  1. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of classrooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, cafeterias, and other school areas
  2. Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, disinfect, and empty trash as assigned.
  3. Assist with setup and cleanup for school and community events.
  4. Maintain the safety and appearance of school grounds, including sidewalks and entryways.
  5. Perform minor maintenance or repairs as directed.
  6. Report any major maintenance issues or safety concerns promptly.
  7. Secure the building after school hours, ensuring doors and windows are locked.
  8. Operate cleaning equipment safely and effectively (e.g., buffers, floor scrubbers).
  9. Follow proper procedures for handling and storing cleaning supplies and chemicals.
  10. Support the district's commitment to safety and positive public relations.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor.


Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Demonstrates dependability, integrity, and a positive work ethic.
  • Maintains a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
  • Prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently.
  • Willingness to be fingerprinted and complete a background check.

  • On an as-needed basis to cover custodial absences or vacancies.
  • May include daytime or evening.
