Sr System Administrator

Description:

The Senior Systems Administrator serves a key role member of the Systems and Information Security team and will engage in problem solving, project management and project execution. This is a critical role that requires an individual with a strong technical background as well as innate understanding of balancing system stability, system improvements and security requirements with business objectives. This individual will work very closely with the Director of security in responding to system and network issues, responding to threats and attacks and executing maintenance of servers and applications within the business.

The successful applicant will have a wide variety of deep experience in all areas of IT and working in cloud and local hosted environments demonstrated growth with increasing levels of responsibilities and management of infrastructure projects as well as assisting in resolving daily issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain server hardware, software, and network systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Install, configure, and upgrade server software, hardware, and operating systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to servers, networks, and applications
  • Develop and implement backup and disaster recovery policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Document systems, policies and SOP's in appropriate applications
  • Manage and maintain server security, including firewalls, antivirus software, and access controls
  • Monitor system performance and capacity planning, proactively identifying and addressing issues before they cause problems
  • Manage and maintain database systems, ensuring their stability and security
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure server and network systems integrate effectively with other enterprise applications and systems
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for server and network administration, ensuring compliance with industry best practices and regulations
  • Document and maintain all server and network configurations, changes, and maintenance procedures
  • Investigate security alerts and provide incident response
  • Monitor identity and access management, including monitoring for abuse of permissions by authorized system users
  • Understand and interact with related disciplines to ensure the consistent application of policies and standards across all technology projects, systems and services
  • Provide strategic and tactical security guidance for all Road Safe's Enterprise IT projects, including the evaluation and recommendation of technical controls
  • Keep up to date with the latest security and technology developments
  • Perform monitoring for attacks, intrusions and unusual, unauthorized or illegal activity.
  • Drive the testing and evaluation of security products
  • Perform upgrades to existing system and deploy new systems
  • Monitor and respond to 'phishing' emails and 'pharming' activity
  • Assist with the creation, maintenance and delivery of cyber security awareness training for colleagues
  • Assist in the building and implementing of a robust and secure Identity and Access Management plan

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field preferred
  • 5+ years of experience as a System administrator or systems engineer preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of server hardware, software, and network systems
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware or Hyper-V
  • Experience with Active Directory and Office 365 Admin
  • Network administration experience, Sonicwall experience preferred
  • Experience with Azure, Veem, Wasabi, Abnormal, CrowdStrike, ConnectWise preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • IT project management experience of medium to large projects using project management tools and scheduling and resource management experience
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in Windows, Windows Server, Apple and Linux operating systems
  • Language: fluent English is essential
  • Strong knowledge of technological trends and developments in the area of security, privacy, and risk management is an asset
  • Strong understanding of network fundamentals and protocols to be able to provide input into firewall, intrusion detection / prevention, penetration testing, and incident analysis and recommendations
  • Knowledge of security, service, and control frameworks, such as ISO/IEC 27001, NIST, ITIL, SOX, and GDPR
  • Knowledge of latest information security technologies and services such as EDR, SOC, NDR, SIEM, SOAR, and XDR
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high level of personal integrity
  • Experience with contract and vendor negotiations and management including managed services is an asset
  • Experience with Cloud computing/Elastic computing across virtualized environments
  • Business process analysis, design, and improvement skills are an asset
  • Team-oriented work approach
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to present solutions/alternatives and influence the outcome of decisions
  • Self-starter with demonstrated initiative and hands-on
  • Strong drive with the ability to make things happen. Comfortable in a dynamic environment
