Job Summary:
A BI Engineer Intermediate serves as a SME for a governance area, supporting data, content, process and procedure. Under general direction, formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems. Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written. Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and maintains those programs. Designs, builds, debugs various dashboards and reports to support the governance area. Competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities but requires instructions and guidance in other phases.

Job Description:

Project Participation/Completion:

• Participates in projects as assigned by manager/director.
• Works under supervision to complete work in established timelines.
• Utilizes project management methodology to assist in developing project tasks and work closely with project manager to resolve issues, remove barriers and avoid delays and surprises.

Development

• Create and configure interfaces to provide desired solutions, i.e., dashboards, data analytics, and report generation.
• Develop training and education on optimum use of end-user solutions.

Product Knowledge:

• Serves as a senior subject matter expert on content, processes, and procedures associated with the product.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge of the product throughout the system's lifecycle.
• Maintains in-depth knowledge and expertise in the technical tools used to support the system.
• Documents and leads resolution for data quality issues.
• Participates and documents Data definition thru various project lifecycle.

Business Relationship:

• Participate in meetings with the customer/stakeholder to evaluate, plan, and develop/re-engineer current or new reports.
• Participates in the interdisciplinary discussion and brainstorming events to develop new functionality/workflows.

Report Quality & Testing:

• Tests reports and reporting functionality in coordination with end users to assure data quality.

Process Documentation:

• Document internal procedures.

Mentoring:

• Mentors less experienced team members in system support, administration methods, processes, and implementation of those methods.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

• Associate degree.
• Associate degree requirement can be waived if the candidate has four or more years of certification and experience supporting the applicable application.

Specialized Knowledge:

• Experience with reporting/ BI Tools (Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, Sisense, Looker, Qlik)
• In depth understanding of Database management systems, OLAP, ETL, Data Lake,
• Data Modelling (Kimball / Inmon )
• Data Cleansing/Normalization
• Data Visualization (Charts, Graphs, Scatter chart)

Kind and Length of Experience:

• Four years or more years of related information systems experience
