Job Summary
The Secondary Agriculture Science Teacher is responsible for developing a rigorous and engaging
secondary-level agriculture science instructional program and a classroom/laboratory environment
that promotes learning, career readiness, and personal growth. The teacher establishes effective
rapport with students, motivates students to develop agricultural knowledge, technical skills, and
leadership abilities, and fosters positive relationships with parents, colleagues, community
partners, and industry stakeholders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and
responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform
job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
1. Teaches secondary-level agriculture science courses utilizing the course of study approved by
the district.
2. Provides instruction in agricultural science, agribusiness, plant and animal systems,
environmental and natural resources, and related subject areas as assigned.
3. Develops, evaluates, and implements lesson plans and instructional materials that translate
curriculum standards into meaningful classroom, laboratory, and experiential learning
opportunities.
4. Integrates hands-on learning, laboratory activities, supervised agricultural experiences, and
leadership development into instruction.
5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior necessary to achieve a safe, organized,
and productive learning environment in the classroom, laboratory, shop, and outdoor facilities.
6. Evaluates students' academic progress, technical skill development, and employability skills;
maintains accurate records, and prepares progress reports.
7. Communicates effectively with parents, counselors, students, and community partners through
conferences and other means to discuss student progress and program expectations.
8. Identifies student needs and collaborates with other professional staff members to assess and
support students with academic, social, or behavioral challenges.
9. Creates an effective learning environment through purposeful classroom and laboratory
organization, instructional displays, and the appropriate use of tools, equipment, and technology.
10. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the
district and self-selected professional growth activities related to agricultural education and
CTE.
11. Selects and requisitions books and instructional materials, tools, equipment, and supplies;
maintains required inventory records and safety records.
12. Supervises students during laboratory activities, field experiences, school-sponsored events,
and assigned non-instructional duties.
13. Participates in curriculum development initiatives, professional learning communities, faculty
committees, and school improvement efforts.
14. Advises and supports student leadership organizations, such as the FFA, and may coordinate
related activities, events, and competitions.
15. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for educational assistants, student teachers, and
volunteers.
16. Enforces the Board's policy related to equal educational opportunity, safety, and instructional
practices, and supports district goals and initiatives.
17. Represents the school and community positively, maintains cordial relationships with the home,
parents,
etc.

18. Performs such other duties as may reasonably be prescribed by the principal.
19. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience
• A Bachelor's degree in agricultural education, agriculture science, or a related field, with
experience working with secondary-level students.

Required Licenses or Certifications
• Valid Tennessee teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements in agriculture or
agricultural education.

• Low to medium degree of discomfort due to exposure to temperature, fumes, dirt, dust, noise, and
cleaning chemicals.
• This role works in a dynamic and engaging classroom environment designed to foster student
learning, growth, and development. The classroom will be organized to support a range of
instructional activities, with appropriate resources and materials available for hands-on learning.
• This position manages a diverse group of students, guiding them through the academic curriculum
while maintaining a positive and structured classroom atmosphere. The role involves adapting
instructional methods to accommodate various learning styles and abilities, ensuring that each
student has the opportunity to succeed. The teacher will maintain effective classroom management
practices to create a respectful and collaborative environment that promotes student engagement and
achievement.
• The position also requires effective communication with parents and colleagues to support the
holistic development of students and ensure alignment with school goals. Collaboration with other
staff members and participation in school-wide initiatives will be essential to ensure a cohesive
educational experience for all students.
• Regular assessment of student progress and implementation of individualized support plans will
be key components of the teacher's responsibilities. The teacher will be responsible for creating a
safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning space that encourages exploration and academic curiosity.
