PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Schedule outpatient diagnostic tests and referrals as ordered.
* Knowledge of insurance carrier requirements.
* Organize/Provide necessary information to obtain necessary authorizations or precertification from insurance carriers.
* Notify patients of scheduled appointments and document their acknowledgment.
* Counsel patients regarding special preparation for procedures and answer questions.
* Contact insurance payers daily: Medicare, BlueCross BlueShield, and others.
* Review claim denials and appeal when justified.
* Verify the accuracy of coding.
* Compile and prepare reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
* High school diploma or GED
EXPERIENCE:
One year of general clerical experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Word processing and computer experience. Familiarity with local insurance policies and their referral requirements.
