The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is accepting online reservations for a Part-Time Lifeguard to work 28 hours per week. The employee performs responsible service work ensuring the safe use of the City's public swimming facilities by pool visitors and aids troubled bathers in emergencies; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision. An employee in this class is responsible for supervising the City swimming pools to include lifeguarding, instructing/teaching, first aid, administrative duties, pool maintenance and observation for the purpose of a safe workplace and recreation use facility. The work includes the maintenance and care of the facilities, as well as the supervision of lifeguards. Lifeguards perform difficult protective services associated/related to pool rescues. Supervision is exercised over lifeguards under the regular supervision of the Aquatics Center Supervisor and Head Lifeguard.
Essential Functions of Position:
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of water safety rules and of lifesaving and first aid practices and techniques; general knowledge of the cleaning and maintenance requirements for large pools and related equipment and supplies; considerable skill and strength in swimming; ability to maintain chemical balance of pool water; ability to work safely with toxic chemicals; ability to enforce rules and to remain calm under stress; ability to clean and maintain a swimming pool and related facilities; must maintain all required certifications.
Acceptable Experience and Training: Considerable experience as a lifeguard at a community swimming facility; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job requirements as a Lifeguard. Must possess current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/AED for the professional rescuer. Pre-employment physical, drug screening and background check required.
