Job Summary

The Prestigious Awards and Scholar Development Advisor plays a key role in identifying, mentoring, and preparing high-achieving undergraduate students to pursue nationally and internationally competitive opportunities-including merit-based scholarships, fellowships, elite internships, and graduate study.

This position is responsible for designing and delivering high-impact, holistic advising and scholar development programming. Core responsibilities include guiding students through all phases of competitive award applications, facilitating workshops, managing internal nomination processes, and cultivating strategic partnerships to strengthen talent pipelines and expand access to transformative experiences.

A primary focus of this role is to promote equity and inclusion by supporting first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students. The Advisor works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and access-oriented programs to identify students with exceptional potential across academic disciplines.

This position requires advanced advising and communication skills, cultural competency, and the ability to coordinate student-centered initiatives that foster academic success, global engagement, and postgraduate achievement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to advise students in both group and individual settings.
  • Knowledge of the landscape of Prestigious Awards and current best practices in advising.
  • Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni.
  • Strong data management and analysis skills with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data related to student interest and applications.
  • Ability to assist with event planning and tabling at orientations and recruitment events.
  • Capacity to multitask and manage multiple award cycles simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to support students in developing strong and competitive application materials.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Experience with social media management and print publications.
  • Public speaking experience with a broad range of audiences.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., English, History, Political Science, Communications, Education, International Studies, or related disciplines emphasizing writing, advising, or global engagement).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in academic advising, student success, writing support, global learning, or awards/fellowships advising.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in higher education, student affairs, international education, public service, or a related field.
  • Experience in academic advising, career planning, educational counseling, or related services in a higher education context.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and coaching skills, with experience facilitating workshops or trainings.
  • Demonstrated success supporting underrepresented, first-generation, and/or low-income students.
  • Experience advising students on prestigious fellowships or providing academic writing support.
  • Experience reviewing and providing feedback on application materials or scholarly writing.
  • Background in undergraduate research, academic enrichment, or experiential learning programs.
  • Experience developing or managing a peer advising or mentorship program related to fellowships or scholar development.
