Manage the Manufacturing Engineering Technical Services department to ensure timely release of new product and re-engineer, as necessary, existing products, and processes to better service the customer, including researching and purchasing new equipment, and revising existing equipment. Maintain the integrity of our costing system and routing process to properly identify and classify routing steps and processes including time standards for all manufactured items.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Ensure that safety is a priority in the factory. Work with Safety to develop a safety review on all new and existing processes and equipment.
  • Manage and supervise all the Manufacturing Engineering Technical Services Department:
    • Manage all available resources to meet customer requirements, including new product introduction or changes, in a timely and cost-effective way, thus maintaining an acceptable service level. This includes working with PIC, PE, QA, and Sales for effective process changes or improvements.
    • Manage and evaluate personnel including automation technicians, manufacturing specialists, CNC specialists, and tool designers.
    • Work with direct reports to create SMART goals. Provide support and review to help personnel to meet these goals.
  • Identify and investigate potential projects that will benefit AY McDonald including improving automation, ergonomics, safety, quality, or cost savings.
  • Assist in the development of the 6S project and continue to help sustain the practice.
  • Manage all available resources to meet customer requirements, production schedules, and new product introduction in a timely and cost-effective way, thus maintaining an acceptable service level.
  • Assist with the ME and IE functions for the Dubuque, Albia, and Tennessee plants.
  • Plan requirement and production processes necessary for new product and coordinate introduction with PIC and sales. This includes the floor plan and layout of the factory.
  • Interview and hire professional personnel.
  • Practice good labor relations and meet with union representatives as necessary.
  • Assist with or prepare annual budgets and capital expenditures.
  • Research and prepare AFE as necessary for capital equipment or profit improvement expenditures.
  • Attend seminars to remain current with today's management techniques and information.
  • Interact with MIS and cost accounting to ensure compliance with proper accounting and information flow procedures.
  • Meet with tool vendors to work mutually for cost reduction and /or production improvements, including new technology, and to stay abreast of new technology. Visit tool vendors to ensure continued quality and service levels.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises the Manufacturing Engineering Technical Services Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university in Engineering and two to four years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
