POSITION TITLE: Plant Safety and Health Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safety and Health Manager provides technical safety, health, and environmental support to production and corporate personnel. This person develops and leads plant safety, health, and environmental programs, objectives, and coordinates safety training programs. The Plant Safety and Health Manager monitors safety, health, and environmental regulations and provides technical support to the plant and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state safety and health regulations, including but not limited to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), fall protection, vehicle safety programs, respiratory programs, personal protective equipment, and electrical including NFPA standards approved by OSHA. This position will lead and supervise the activities of the Safety Committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accomplishes results by clearly communicating expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising results; coaching and ensuring employees are counseled related to safety violations in accordance with HAVCO policies; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
- Develops annual plant and safety goals.
- Monitors safety relative to budget expenses and adjusts as needed.
- Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses and operator training.
- Documents accidents and analyzes trends in accident and workers' compensation data regarding first aid and other safety-related issues, including training and compliance, and guides the Safety Committee in actions necessary to improve safety culture.
- Advises manufacturing plant and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the plants must comply.
- All other tasks as assigned by an immediate supervisor.
Training & Development:
- Partners with plant management to develop and support a culture that enables employees to successfully perform and meet safety goals and objectives.
- Identifies company safety training needs to develop and coordinate safety training programs.
- Trains all new hires on health/safety rules and regulations.
- Enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to safety by conducting and documenting monthly safety trainings as required by OSHA and company guidelines.
- Administers wellness programs to improve health and wellness of employees.
Employee Relations:
- Builds value-added relationships and effectively communicates with all levels of department employees.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and counseling to managers and employees regarding health and safety issues.
- Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
- Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, and specific training programs.
Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Partners with plant management to design, and evaluate programs, policies and practices to ensure a safe, healthy, and secure working environment.
- Leads and coordinates safety meetings with team managers and departments.
- Follows all OSHA and HAVCO safety rules/regulations.
- Identifies and aids in the corrections of any safety hazards and notifies the immediate supervisor of any safety issues or concerns.
- Facilitates the safety inspection process with managers and supervisors and maintains inspection documents.
- Conducts and documents hazard assessments for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO), confined space permits, HAZCOM, and industrial hygiene needs.
- Manages and maintains day-to-day EHS programs, including new hire orientation training, PPE requirements, etc.
Continuous Improvement:
- Conducts accident and incident investigations to determine probable cause through the use of Root Cause Analyses (RCA) practices and other tools.
- Participates in AD-HOC teams to eradicate or minimize issues/losses.
- Participates in Continuous Improvement (CI) Teams/Pillars.
Education Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Safety Management, or a related field.
- In lieu of a degree, five years of validated experience would be considered.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour certification for safety managers.
- Advanced training in risk management, hazard analysis, or emergency response protocols.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of three years of industrial safety work-related experience required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position involves frequent (up to 5 hours per day) sitting and moving around an office and manufacturing environment. The work environment is climate-controlled with low noise levels while in the office. Work will involve frequent operation of standard office equipment and a computer which requires repetitive typing motion and viewing a monitor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. On the production floor or facility grounds, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This person must have a valid driver's license.
