Program Overview

The Family Service Worker (FSW) will collaborate with the Department of Children Services (DCS) to provide services to youth and families in custody in Tennessee.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Serve as a guardian for youth, adhering to DCS policies guiding care and services.
  • Monitor cases from legal and permanency perspectives, creating and overseeing permanency plans to ensure appropriate services.
  • Manage 15-20 cases with an intensive but flexible schedule.
  • Deliver services in homes, schools, courts, or other settings, scheduling flexibly to meet family needs; on-call rotation required.
  • Ensure all medical, dental, and educational needs are met and maintain child's records.
  • Complete online/web-based documentation accessible from home.
  • Meet with supervisors at least three times weekly to discuss progress and development.

Additional Information

Leadership is available for support in challenging situations. All specialists undergo thorough training to maximize clinical skills. The schedule is flexible and non-traditional, based on youth and family availability.

Applicants must have a valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and auto insurance. Mileage reimbursement is provided for community-based staff.

Skills/Experience

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social services or related field (e.g., social work, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, guidance counseling, marriage and family therapy).
  • Experience with case management is preferred.
  • Foster Care and DCS experience is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Flexible schedule.
  • Own vehicle with liability insurance and acceptable driving record (≤3 moving violations in 36 months).

Salary ranges from $52,000 to $60,000 annually, depending on education and licensure.
