TDH is seeking a dedicated Nutrition Educator to provide education to health department patients and the community on the importance of proper nutrition, physical activity, immunizations, and the negative effects of tobacco use and substance abuse.
Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.S. in Nutrition or related field, including 6 semester hours in human nutrition, 3 semester hours in human anatomy or physiology, and 3 semester hours in education, psychology, or counseling.
Key Responsibilities:
• Employee serves clients in our Women, Infants, and Children's (WIC) program.
• Employee provides education to health department patients and the community on
the importance of proper nutrition, breastfeeding, physical activity, and immunizations as
well as the negative effects of tobacco use and substance abuse.
• Abiding by WIC program guidelines including but not limited to analyzing nutrition
status, nutrition and breastfeeding counseling, assigning appropriate food packages,
and communicating with WIC participants, public health coworkers, and community partners.
• Employee will counsel and support prenatal/breastfeeding mothers regarding
breastfeeding and will supply appropriate BF resources to ensure success.
• Employee assesses the nutritional status of WIC recipients (Women Infants &
Children Program) by interviewing clients to determine WIC eligibility and nutrition risks.
• Employee works with a Registered Dietitian to assign appropriate food packages for
at-risk children, as well as therapeutic formula for high-risk infants.
• Employee may counsel and support pre-natal/breastfeeding mothers regarding
breastfeeding and will supply appropriate breastfeeding resources to ensure success.
