Job Summary
The ETSU College of Public Health is a frequent partner with the community, local and state government and international organizations focused on providing public health training in areas of high need. An energetic and visionary leader is desired to continue with considerable success in this arena, filling the vacancy of Chair for the Department of Biomedical Health Sciences.
The Department Chair will be expected to contribute to the development and growth of the academic and research programs within the department and college. Applicants must also be interested in the broader implications of their research as it relates to policies and practices that impact human health.
This position is responsible to the Dean of the College for providing leadership and department administration; participating as a full member of the faculty, with all relevant duties, responsibilities and benefits; providing service and support to varied constituencies (college, university, outside communities, associations); and enhancing professional and personal development.
The Department Chair initiates broad programs in consultation with department faculty and the college dean, in accordance with the University's Mission, ETSU, and Tennessee Higher Education Commission policies and University, College, and Department goals and objectives.
The Department of Biomedical Health Sciences is one of the five departments in the College of Public Health, which is within ETSU's Health Sciences Division. The division also houses the James H. Quillen College of Medicine, the Bill Gatton College of Pharmacy, the College of Health Sciences, and the College of Nursing, making ETSU one of only 25 universities in the United States with Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Public Health. The Department of Health Sciences offers a B.S. in Health Sciences, and a B.S. in Microbiology.
Our majors are one of the most popular premed majors on campus and have recorded significant enrollment in the past decade. A significant number of our graduates enter in to professional schools each year. The Department also offers an Undergraduate Honors program, and joint-venture Graduate programs, with the Department of Biological Sciences (M.S. with Microbiology, Biology, or Biomedical Science concentrations) and with the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Quillen College of Medicine (Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences).
